Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take royalties on my book sales?
No. Writz takes zero royalties. You keep 100% of every sale. There are no commissions, no listing fees, and no hidden charges. Upload and sell on any plan, including Free.
Does it cost anything to upload audiobooks or ebooks?
No. Uploading and listing your books is completely free on every plan. You can set your own price or offer them for free — there is no per-listing fee or upload charge.
How do I upload and sell my audiobook or ebook?
Click "My Books" in the navigation bar, then hit "Upload New." Drop your file (mp3, wav, epub, pdf, etc.) and our AI will automatically fill in the title, author, genre, and even write a book description for you. Review the details, set your price, and publish. Your listing goes live on the store immediately.
What file formats are supported?
For audiobooks: MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, and FLAC (up to 500MB). For ebooks: EPUB, PDF, and MOBI (up to 500MB). You can also upload a cover image in JPG, PNG, or WebP format.
What does the Lifetime plan include?
The Lifetime plan is a one-time $999 payment that gives you permanent access to every feature — unlimited voices, unlimited generations, full voice training, RunPod GPU access, and AI support. You also get all future features we release, forever. No recurring charges.
Can I change my plan anytime?
Yes! You can upgrade or downgrade between monthly plans at any time. Changes take effect on your next billing cycle. If you buy the Lifetime plan, you're set forever.
Is there a free trial?
Yes! Creator and Professional plans include a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. You can cancel anytime during the trial at no charge.
Can I set up a freelancer or author profile?
Yes! Any registered user can create a freelancer profile in the marketplace. List your services as a narrator, editor, illustrator, cover designer, or other publishing professional. Authors can upload and sell their books directly. All profile creation is free.
What happens if I cancel my subscription?
Your published books and marketplace listings stay live. You keep earning from sales with no royalties. You'll revert to Free plan studio features, but you can re-upgrade anytime without losing anything.
Where do the free audiobooks and ebooks come from?
Our free catalog includes public domain audiobooks from LibriVox and ebooks from Project Gutenberg — thousands of classic titles, all completely free to listen to and download.
What content is allowed on Writz?
Writz welcomes a wide range of voices and stories, including genres that other platforms may not carry — such as LGBTQ+ literature and adult/erotic fiction (behind age verification). We believe every author deserves a platform, and works exploring difficult topics like abuse, trauma, and survival are valued here.

However, we have a zero-tolerance policy for any content that sexually exploits, depicts, or endangers minors. This is non-negotiable. Uploads that violate this policy will be immediately removed, the uploader's account will be permanently banned, and the incident will be reported to the appropriate law enforcement authorities including NCMEC. If you encounter content that you believe violates this policy, please use the report button on any book listing or contact us at support@writzaboutlife.com.
How do I report inappropriate content?
Every book listing has a report button (flag icon) visible to logged-in users. Click it, select the reason, and our team will review the content within 24 hours. For urgent matters involving the safety of minors, email support@writzaboutlife.com immediately.
How do I buy a book, and what's the refund policy?
Click the "Buy" button on any paid listing. You'll be taken to a secure Stripe checkout page to complete payment. Once purchased, the book is immediately added to your library for reading or listening.

Refund policy: You can request a full refund within 7 days of purchase, no questions asked. After 7 days, all sales are final. Refunds are processed through Stripe and returned to your original payment method within 5-10 business days.
How do I get paid when someone buys my book?
Go to "My Books" and connect your Stripe account using the setup banner. Once connected, payments from book sales go directly to your bank account — Writz takes zero royalties or commission. You can view your earnings and payouts anytime from your Stripe dashboard. If a buyer requests a refund within the 7-day window, the refund amount is reversed from your Stripe balance.

All Getting started Studio & narration Publish & sell Hire a freelancer Account & billing Troubleshooting

Getting started

  1. Go to writzstudio.com in your web browser.
  2. Click the purple Sign Up button in the top right.
  3. Enter your email address and pick a password (at least 8 characters).
  4. Check your email — we'll send you a confirmation link. Click it.
  5. You're in! You'll land on your dashboard, ready to upload your first book.

You can upload an EPUB file or paste in your text directly. EPUB is what most writing apps (Word, Pages, Scrivener, Google Docs) can export to.

  1. From your dashboard, click "Open Studio".
  2. Click "New Project" and give your book a title.
  3. In the Source tab, drag your .epub file into the upload box (or click and choose it from your computer).
  4. Wait a moment — Writz will read the file and split it into chapters automatically.
  5. Review the chapter list. You can rename, reorder, or merge chapters before narrating.
Tip: If you don't have an EPUB, open your manuscript in Word and use "Save As → EPUB" or "Export to EPUB". This gives the best chapter detection.

Yes — you can sign up and explore for free, no credit card required. And here's the part that matters: Writz takes 0% royalties. When you sell an audiobook, you keep 100% of the price (minus standard payment processing fees from Stripe, which are about 3%).

Paid plans unlock things like premium AI voices, more storage, and faster processing — but you never share your royalties with us.

You keep 100%. Unlike Audible's ACX (which keeps 60–75% of every sale), Writz takes nothing from your royalties.

Any modern computer works — Windows, Mac, or Chromebook. You just need:

  • A reliable internet connection (Writz runs in your web browser)
  • An up-to-date browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge)
  • Speakers or headphones to preview your narration

The Studio works best on a laptop or desktop with a screen wider than about 13 inches. You can browse the marketplace and check on projects from a phone, but the editing tools are built for a bigger screen.

Studio & narration

  1. Open your project in the Studio.
  2. Click the Narration tab at the top.
  3. Pick a voice from the list — you can hover over any voice to hear a sample before you commit.
  4. Click "Narrate All Chapters" to do the whole book, or pick one chapter at a time to start small.
  5. Watch the progress bar — a 10-chapter book usually takes 5 to 15 minutes.
  6. When it's done, click any chapter to listen and check the result.
Heads up: Don't close the browser tab while it's narrating. You can leave the page open in the background and come back later — your work is saved automatically.

Yes! This is called Multi-Speaker mode. Here's how it works:

  1. In the Studio, click the Multi-Speaker tab.
  2. Add each character (e.g. "Narrator", "Sarah", "Detective Cole").
  3. Pick a voice for each character.
  4. Writz uses AI to detect dialogue and assign voices automatically. You can review and correct any mismatches before narrating.
  5. Click "Generate Multi-Speaker Audio" when you're happy with the assignments.
Tip: For best results, make sure your manuscript uses quotation marks around dialogue. The AI uses these to spot character lines.
  1. Open the chapter where the issue is and click the QC Editor tab.
  2. Find the line with the problem and click on it — the audio will jump to that spot.
  3. Click "Edit Pronunciation".
  4. Type how the word should sound (for example: "Siobhan" → "shi-vawn", or "Caitlin" → "kayt-lin").
  5. Click "Re-narrate Line". Only that one line is regenerated — the rest of your audio stays untouched.

Yes, on a per-chapter basis:

  1. Open the chapter you want to enhance.
  2. Click the Audio Mix tab.
  3. Click "Add Background Music" and upload an MP3, or pick from our royalty-free library.
  4. Use the volume slider to set how loud the music sits behind the voice (we recommend 15–25% volume).
  5. Click "Apply" — the mix renders in about 30 seconds.

Publish & sell

  1. In the Studio, click "Publish" at the top right.
  2. Fill in the title, author name, description, and pick a genre.
  3. Upload a cover image (1400×1400 px JPG or PNG works best).
  4. Set your price — anywhere from $2.99 to $49.99. You can also offer it free.
  5. Review the preview, then click "Publish to Marketplace".
  6. Within minutes, your book appears in the Audiobooks store and is searchable by readers.

We use Stripe for payments — it's the same service Shopify, Lyft, and Amazon use. Payouts go straight to your bank account.

  1. Click My Books in the top navigation.
  2. Click "Connect Stripe Account" in the banner at the top.
  3. Stripe will ask for your name, address, and bank info — this is required for tax reporting and deposits.
  4. Once connected, every sale automatically deposits to your bank within 2 to 7 days.
  5. You can see your earnings, pending payouts, and history any time on the My Books page.
Note: Stripe is a separate company that handles the money side safely so we never touch your bank info. They charge about 2.9% + $0.30 per sale, which is industry standard.

Yes. Writz is non-exclusive — you keep all rights to your book and can sell anywhere. To get your finished audiobook files for use elsewhere:

  1. Open the project in the Studio.
  2. Click "Export" at the top.
  3. Choose your format — MP3 (one file per chapter, good for most platforms) or M4B (a single audiobook file, used by Audible and Apple Books).
  4. Click download. The files save to your computer.
  1. Click My Books in the top navigation.
  2. Find the book you want to change and click "Edit".
  3. Update the title, description, price, cover, or audio — whatever you need.
  4. Click "Save Changes". Updates are live within a minute.
  5. To take a book down completely, click "Unpublish". Existing buyers will still have access to their copies.

Hire a freelancer

  1. Click Freelancers in the top navigation.
  2. Browse profiles. Each freelancer has voice samples — click "Listen" to hear them.
  3. When you find one you like, click "Hire" on their profile.
  4. Send them a message describing your book, length, and deadline. Attach your manuscript.
  5. They'll send you a quote. If you accept, payment is held safely in escrow until they deliver.
  6. When they upload the finished audio, you review it. If you approve, the funds release to them.

Pricing varies by experience and demand. Common ranges:

  • Per finished hour (PFH): $100–$400. A 10-hour audiobook costs roughly $1,000–$4,000.
  • Royalty share: some narrators accept a split of future sales instead of upfront pay (typically 50/50).
  • Flat fee: for shorter projects, narrators may quote a single project price.

Each profile shows the freelancer's preferred pricing model. You're free to negotiate.

  1. Click your initial in the top right of the page.
  2. Choose "My Account".
  3. Scroll to "Become a Freelancer" and click it.
  4. Fill in your bio, set your rate, and upload at least 3 voice samples.
  5. Submit for review. We approve most profiles within 24–48 hours.

Account & billing

  1. Click your initial in the top right corner of the page.
  2. Choose "My Account".
  3. Scroll down to the Subscription section.
  4. Click "Cancel Plan".
  5. You'll keep paid features until your billing period ends, then automatically move to the free plan. Your books and audio stay safe.
  1. Go to the Login page.
  2. Click "Forgot password?" below the password box.
  3. Type your email address and click "Send Reset Link".
  4. Check your inbox (and your spam/junk folder, just in case) for an email from Writz.
  5. Click the link in the email, type a new password, and you're back in.

Subscription fees are generally non-refundable, but you can cancel anytime and we won't bill you again — you keep paid access until the end of your current billing period and then move to the free plan.

Audiobook and ebook purchases from the Marketplace are refundable within 7 days if you haven't fully downloaded the file. Email support@writzaboutlife.com with your order details to request one.

If you were charged in error or hit a billing problem, reach out and we'll fix it.

  1. Click your initial in the top right.
  2. Choose "My Account".
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click "Delete Account".
  4. You'll be asked to confirm by typing your email.
  5. This is permanent — all your projects and audio are removed after a 7-day grace period during which you can change your mind.
Important: Export your finished audiobooks before deleting if you want to keep them.

Troubleshooting

Try these in order — most issues clear up by step 3:

  1. Check that your computer's volume isn't muted (and that the right output device is selected).
  2. Click somewhere else on the page first, then press play. Browsers sometimes block audio until you interact with the page.
  3. Refresh the page (press F5 on Windows, or Cmd+R on Mac).
  4. Try a different browser — Chrome and Safari work best with our audio player.
  5. Still nothing? Email support@writzaboutlife.com with your project name and we'll dig in.
  1. Make sure your file is under 50 MB and is an .epub, .txt, or .docx file.
  2. Check that your internet is working — try loading another website.
  3. Refresh the page and try again — most retry attempts work.
  4. If it keeps failing, email us with the file attached and we'll upload it for you.

Narration time depends on book length and how busy our servers are. A rough guide:

  • Short story (under 10,000 words): 1–3 minutes
  • Novella (30,000 words): 5–10 minutes
  • Full novel (80,000 words): 15–30 minutes

If the progress bar hasn't moved in over 10 minutes, refresh the page. Your work is saved — narration will resume from where it stopped.

Latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Internet Explorer is not supported.

Mobile browsers work for browsing the store, listening to samples, and managing your account, but the Studio editing tools are built for a desktop or laptop.
